Kortnee Simmons Steps Out Of His Family's Shadow

September 24, 2017

You may have recognized him on the Netflix series, "The Get Down," a show depicting how hip-hop was born. As nephew to Joseph "Rev Run" Simmons of RUN DMC and business magnate Russell Simmons, this singer-songwriter and dynamic actor descends from "The First Family of Hip Hop." He uses that as determination to step out of the "Simmons Shadow" and make a name for himself.

I had the opportunity to witness this amazing human being perform live at "Poelodies," an event that takes place at a venue in the Hudson Valley called The Falcon. The event is hosted by Poet Gold every third Wednesday of the month. The room was spacious, yet intimate. And the ambiance was warm and inviting. He performed his entire EP titled "Euphoria," which took everyone on a journey of self-discovery through the power of acceptance and truth. His sound can be best described as being the love child of Musiq Soulchild and John Legend.
