SZA Is Ready To Take 'Ctrl'

June 19, 2017

At first, it seemed like 'Ctrl' was never going to be released. As we recall late last year, SZA tweeted, "I actually quit. (TDE President Punch Henderson) can release my album if he ever feels like it. Y'all be blessed." This tweet was referring to a succession of behind-the-scenes label issues that she seemed to be going through at the time. But to our surprise and luck, all of those issues might have been put aside because that tweet has been deleted and the album is finally here.

'Ctrl' debuted at number 3 on Billboard 200 and it is well deserved to say the least. To be honest, it is not surprising that 'Ctrl' came out as good as it did. Given the fact that SZA comes from the same collective as Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, and Isaiah Rashad, you can almost expect that whatever SZA decides to put out is going to be good. In 'Ctrl', she talks about topics such as empowerment, insecurity, and relationships. The abstract production makes a seamless blend of creative drum sounds, percussive vocals, jazzy chords, tight rhythms, and a sprinkle of trap and hip hop. The project also features strong acts such as Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, James Fauntleroy, and Isaiah Rashad.
